U Yard

A quiet oasis nestled in the heart of an urban campus, University Yard is a favorite outdoor spot for students to study, relax and meet up with friends.

It is also the site of major university events throughout the year, such as the annual Fall Fest concert and other performances. University Yard?s green space is studded with benches and trees. In addition, the center of University Yard is where the brick walkways of GW Law School and other academic buildings converge, making this a convenient place to spend time between classes. A bronze replica of Jean-Antoine Houdon?s sculpture of George Washington, which is considered to be the most accurate rendering of the first president, prominently sits at the north end of the Yard. This statue inspired the university?s new portrait logo which was unveiled in August 2012.
